You book a two-week block with a single instructor. We match your student to someone vetted in that subject, put you in touch, and the two of you agree the session times between you. Sessions run live on Google Meet, and the instructors and subjects are the same ones from our summer program. There is no cost at any point.

One-on-one takes far more instructor time than a group of five, so only a handful of blocks are open at once. Requests are reviewed in the order they arrive. If we can’t place your student right away, we’ll tell you that plainly and keep you on the list.
How it works
How individual tutoring works.
A group session has to move at a pace that works for five people, and a one-on-one session does not. That single difference is the reason we run these blocks at all, and it shapes everything below.
One instructor, start to finish
Your student works with the same instructor for the whole block instead of rotating through specialists. Two weeks is long enough for that instructor to learn how your student thinks, which is where most of the progress actually comes from.
You pick the times
Tell us when your student is free, whether that is weeknights, weekend mornings, or after practice. We pass that to your instructor and the two of you settle on times together. There’s no fixed timetable to fit into.
Two weeks per block
That is short enough that you are not signing up for something open-ended, and long enough to get through a unit properly. If it is working when the two weeks end, you can ask for another block.
No cost
No fees, no deposits, no card on file, no charge to book another block. NextArc is a nonprofit staffed by volunteer instructors who earn verified community service hours. That’s what makes this possible.
What we tutor
Subjects we tutor.
You pick the subject on the request form and we match the instructor. These are the areas our instructors have been vetted in. If your student needs something adjacent to one of them, ask us, and we will tell you honestly whether we have someone for it.
Mathematics
Elementary arithmetic through pre-calculus, including the Math I, II, and III transitions that trip up strong students the first time they hit them.
Science
Earth science, biology, and chemistry fundamentals, taught as a way of reasoning rather than a list of terms to memorize.
Computer Science
Computer fundamentals, digital fluency, and intro Python. Useful whether your student is heading toward AP CS or has never written a line of code.
English & Reading
Reading comprehension, writing structure, and getting an essay from a blank page to a real draft without the whole evening turning into a fight.
Financial Literacy
Budgeting, saving, and how money actually works. The class most schools don’t offer until it’s nearly too late to matter.
SAT & College Planning
SAT readiness, course selection, and what to start building now. From students currently going through the process, not a decade removed from it.
Getting started
How to get started.
Four steps, and from request to first session is usually about a week. There are no contracts, no sales call, and no trial period you have to remember to cancel.
Request a block
The form at the bottom of this page. Two minutes. Tell us the subject, what you want your student to get out of it, and when they’re generally free.
Short intake call
Fifteen minutes with a parent, so we understand where your student actually is before we assign anyone. We’ll also tell you straight if we’re not the right fit.
Matched and scheduled
We pair your student with an instructor vetted in that subject and put you in touch. Between you, you work out how many sessions the two weeks should hold and when they land.
Two weeks of sessions
Live on Google Meet, one-on-one. Parents get a note after each session covering what was worked on and what’s next, then a short wrap-up at the end of the block.

What parents receive.
The most common complaint about tutoring is that parents pay for an hour and never find out what went on inside it. We write it down every time, so you always know what happened in the session and what is coming next.
A note after every session
What was covered, what your student handled well, what they got stuck on, and what the instructor plans to do about it next week. Specific, not a template.
A wrap-up at the end
When the block finishes you get a short write-up: what got covered, what moved, and what we’d work on in another two weeks. If tutoring isn’t helping, we’d rather say so than book you another block.
Someone to ask between sessions
A test on Thursday, a problem set that won’t crack at nine at night. Your instructor is reachable between sessions, and so are we at contact@nextarclearning.com.
Capacity
Why spots are limited.
Every instructor here is a high school student volunteering their own time. In the summer program, one instructor could reach five students in an hour. One-on-one, that same hour reaches one.
So the honest math is that we can run a small number of blocks well, or a lot of them badly. We’re choosing the first. Two weeks at a time is part of how we keep that true. Blocks end, instructors free up, and the next family gets a real spot instead of a place in an endless queue.

Instructors are vetted first
Strong AP or SAT scores in the exact subject, verified against the real score report, plus a short interview where they have to explain a concept simply.
A few blocks at a time
We would rather turn a family away than assign a student to an instructor who is already stretched across too many.
You hear back within a week
Placed, waitlisted, or not a fit, you get a real answer from a person rather than silence.

Yes. No fees, no deposits, no payment information collected at any point. NextArc Learning is a nonprofit (501(c)(3) status pending) run by high school students, and our instructors volunteer in exchange for verified community service hours. If anyone ever asks your family for money on behalf of NextArc, email us immediately.
A block is two weeks. How many sessions fit inside it is up to you and your instructor. Some pairs meet most days, others a couple of times a week with longer sessions. You settle that between you once you’re matched, rather than us forcing everyone into the same shape.
No. Individual Tutoring is open to any K-12 student in the US, whether or not they were part of Summer 2026. Families from the summer session already know how we work, so they’ll recognize the format, but there’s no prerequisite.
A high school student who recently completed the exact subject and scored well in it. We ask to see the real AP or SAT score report, not a claim, and we interview every instructor before they teach. You’ll know who your student is matched with before the first session, and you can meet them on the intake call.
Google Meet. Your student needs a device with a camera and microphone and a stable connection. Nothing else to install. Sessions are live, and we don’t hand out recorded content and call it tutoring.
You get a short wrap-up, and if you want to keep going you ask for another block. We’ll place you again as soon as an instructor is free, which is sometimes straight away and sometimes after a wait. Nothing renews automatically, and there’s never a charge either way.
Tell us and we’ll re-match or stop, mid-block if it comes to that. Personality fit matters as much as subject knowledge one-on-one, and a pairing that isn’t clicking is nobody’s fault. There’s nothing to cancel and no awkward conversation about money.
Summer 2026 finished on July 31 and every student who completed it received a certificate and a post-program report. We plan to run it again, but dates aren’t set. You can read what that program was and add your student to the list for the next one.
